Hunger Nutrition Coalition of Bucks County
In July 2001 the League of Women voters convened a Nutrition Task Force to identify the obstacles Bucks County low-income families experience in accessing food and nutritional resources. Beginning with fourteen Bucks County social service agencies, more agencies and individuals joined the effort of working in partnership with regional organizations and other concerned groups to explore the extent of unmet food and nutritional needs and to take steps to improve food security in Bucks County. The Task Force determined that Bucks County has families that are “food insecure” because of a lack of food resources. Food Insecurity means that children and adults at times do not have enough food for an active healthy life and may experience chronic mild under-nutrition. It was in response to our findings that we added the word “hunger” to our title and thus became the Hunger Nutrition Coalition (HNC) of Bucks County.
