Innovation Awards Contest >
This year, three anti-hunger coalitions were selected to win cash prizes in recognition of particularly innovative practices to end hunger in their communities. The winning coalitions were also asked to give presentations on their innovative practices at a special luncheon plenary panel during the Second Annual National Hunger Free Communities Summit. This year, our winners were as follows:
1st Place: Maryland Partnership to End Childhood Hunger
2nd Place:Treasure Coast Hunger-Free Community Coalition
3rd Place: El Dorado Hunger Free/ Healthy Food Community
How to Enter:
1) Register to attend the Summit. All coalitions wishing to participate in the Innovation Award contest must have at least one representative registered to attend the Second Annual National Hunger Free Communities Summit on Saturday, February 25, 2012 in Washington, D.C. Contestants who need help defraying travel costs to Washington, D.C. are encouraged to apply for a travel scholarship.
2) Complete a profile for your coalition. All coalitions wishing to participate in the Innovation Award contest must complete a profile for their coalition for inclusion in the Hunger Free Communities Map. Coalitions who have already completed a profile do not need to do so again.
3) Answer the following questions in 2 single-spaced pages or less (total). What is the most innovative practice your anti-hunger coalition is using to move your community towards becoming hunger-free? A) Describe your coalition’s innovation. B) What makes this practice innovative? C) What impact have you seen as a result of this innovation? D) How might other anti-hunger coalitions apply your innovation to their own communities? Responses to the essay questions should be sent to Nicole Washington at nwashington@alliancetoendhunger.org with the subject line “Innovation Award Entry”.
4) (Optional) Include photos, videos, or other media with your essay submission. You may elect to attach a limited amount of multimedia content to your essay questions (pictures, audio, video, etc.). While doing so is not mandatory, it is encouraged. You may attach files directly to your essay submission, or provide web links to your content.
5) Entries were submitted by Friday, February 3, at 5pm Eastern Standard Time.
6) The three winning coalitions will be notified by Friday, February 10. These coalitions will present their innovative practices during special luncheon plenary panel at the Second Annual National Hunger Free Communities Summit.
7) As the focus of the National Hunger Free Communities Summit is on community-based anti-hunger efforts in the United States, only U.S.-based coalitions are eligible to apply.
